Mary’s French Dip Hoagies

Makes enough dip for 4 sandwiches


Ingredients

Au Jus Dip:

Horseradish sauce:

  • ½ cup sour cream

  • ¾ teaspoon horseradish

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • ¼ teaspoon pepper

Sandwiches:

  • Soft white hoagie buns (1 per person)

  • Roast beef (3-4 slices per sandwich)

  • Swiss cheese, optional (1 slice per sandwich)

  • 1 packet of French onion soup / dip mix, or make it yourself:

    • 2 tablespoons dried minced onions

    • 1 teaspoon onion powder

    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

    • ½ teaspoon salt

    • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

    • 1 tablespoon fresh chopped parsley

  • ¾ cup cold water

  • ½ teaspoon sugar

  • 1 ½ cup beef broth

  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

  • 1/8 teaspoon salt


  1. Mix all Au Jus dip ingredients, plus the slices of roast beef, in a saucepan and warm over medium heat. 

  2. Remove the beef and assemble sandwiches. Optional: Broil assembled sandwiches in the oven a few minutes to melt cheese. Serve with warm dip and horseradish sauce.
